“My public library offered more than just literature, it offered a sense of community, a sense of belonging. But now, in our present time, children of rural Newfoundland and Labrador could be stripped of these experiences. Everyone’s socioeconomic positions are different, so why do we jump to the conclusion that everyone can afford to buy the latest mystery novel, or any book for that matter? If public libraries are closed, many children will never experience running their fingers along the book pages or taking in the distinct book scents that saturate a library.”
